Cyprus Residency
Applying for Cyprus residency, whether temporary or permanent, can be a prolonged and complicated process. Since 1 January 2021, those individuals planning to spend more than 90 days in each 180 days in a year should be looking at applying for Cypriot residence, now known as form MUKW. This only applies if you have proof that you were residing in Cyprus before the transition date 31 December 2020.
On the 1 January 2021 the Cypriot Government introduced a new residence document for UK nationals and their family members in scope of the Withdrawal Agreement. The new MUKW documents replace the MEU documents and it is recommended by the UK Government that holders of the MEU3 document apply for the MUKW3.
Once residency is acquired, there are additional matters which need to be addressed, such as surrendering your UK driving licence if you have spent more than 6 months in Cyprus. If you acquire assets in Cyprus, you should also have a Cypriot Will.
